Official Site Report:

Despite taking the lead with a first half Ben Bailey header Hednesford Town will be thankful for a point from a strongly contested cliché ridden ‘game of two halves’.

‘The Pitmen’ were the better side in the opening period with Stourbridge struggling to defend with any conviction at set pieces. Central defender Ben Bailey opened the scoring on forty-two minutes with a deflected header but could have conceivably helped himself to a hat-trick of goals from Tony Dinning corner kicks.

Stourbridge came out of the blocks with real vigour following the half time interval and it was Nathan Bennett who scrambled in the equaliser on fifty-three minutes after two fantastic saves from Hednesford keeper Gavin Ward.

The West Midlands side had the higher number of opportunities to win the match with Ward in the Pitmen goal making several vital blocks in the final twenty minutes. ‘The Pitmen’ failed to assert themselves in midfield and lacked the desire of the injured Karl Palmer.

Tyrone Barnett missed when it was easier to score on fifty-seven minutes but by the final exchanges it was Dean Edwards’ side who held on and were happy to leave a tricky away fixture with a point.
