Re: Prescot Cables (A) .. Northern Premier League - West
Decent performance and it would have been a good point had Trafford not won but as it was we really needed to win the game.
My last visit to this ground was 17 years ago and it was as delightful as I’d always remembered with the large main stand an old but a truly magnificent structure. Interestingly, only 255 were at that game which shows how their crowds have increased since then.
The pitch was absolutely terrible, rock hard and with hardly a blade of grass on it. The strong wind also made conditions very difficult for both teams but I think it actually played into our favour as it was a bit of a leveller. A draw was a fair result as neither side deserved to win it over the other. We started the game well and took an early lead which was unfortunately shortlived when a shot from them took an unnatural bounce in front of Rhys and went over him. Had the pitch been better and the ball bounced normally he probably would have saved it. After the equaliser we struggled to create much else apart from a few half chances and we never really looked likely to score but neither did they.
Standout performances for me were from our centre back pairing of Griffiths and Williams. For someone that wasn’t even supposed to be on the bench, Michael Williams came straight into the starting line up for Endall, who was injured in the warm up, and produced a fine performance at the back.
Joe Morley wasn’t even on the bench today but it was his birthday today so maybe he’s away or maybe he’s on the piss. Nathan Delfouneso made it onto the bench but didn’t get onto the pitch. I do wonder why we’ve bothered to sign him. Jake Jervis put in another hardworking performance and scored another goal.
We now need to win 2 of our last 3 games just to stand any chance of getting out of the bottom two but stranger things have happened.
