I am really pleased with the squad that Danny and Dan have put together so far.
I don’t really know anything about the completely new players Jack Richards, Jack Kelly or Max Dixon.
Dan Crane may be 39 years old but he is a dependable keeper which is something that we haven’t had for far too long. We’ve had some good loan keepers (Brooks, Basey) but it’s not the same and you know they could be taken back by their parent club at any time. I don’t think we could expect to get a better keeper than Crane at Step 4 and Rhys Williams and Jack Richards will be able to learn so much from him.
Sam Griffiths had a nightmare season when he was last with us but prior to that he had been excellent so I am hoping some time away at a lower level has helped him to recapture the form of years past. Lewis Wright did ok for us (nothing more) when he was last with us but he’s older, more experienced and stronger than before so hopefully that will make him a better player. There is no doubt about the quality of Callam Mendez-Jones, there is just a huge doubt over his fitness. He has never really been able to stay off the treatment table for a prolonged period of time in the past but he is an excellent defender when he is fit. It looks like he’s had a year out of the game so maybe that has helped his body to recover and we may get the best out of him this season.
Michael Williams only played a couple of games for us as far as I am aware but he is experienced at 35 and can play in defence and midfield so should be a good utility player. I have to say I was disappointed with Tom Thorley last season, he didn’t look anywhere near the player he used to be but maybe dropping down a level and playing for a team who hopefully won’t be bottom of the league this time will help. I only saw Jack Sang once last season but he played well (in the 4-0 win over Needham I think) and should certainly be a good player at the level below by that performance. Desean Martin is another player who didn’t play for us for very long the last time he was here and I am slightly concerned that he’s been playing at lower levels for Tividale and Bilston of late but let’s give him a chance and see how he gets on. And of course we have Danny still as a player as well whether he plays himself much or not we’ll have to see. We’ve got a lot of experience which should be good at this level and I’m hoping to see a top notch goalscorer being signed and a wide player or two next and a midfielder.
I’d like to see Ethan Patterson signed from last season as he could really star at this level, Luke Redfern has been released by Stoke but he’ll probably be looking to play at a higher level and I’d also hope to sign James McQuilkin again if we can.
We’re on our way, we’re on our way, to the EFL, we’re on our way (26/01/24)

If you check back to my original post it's been amended to what you require, plus the addition of goals.

There were errors in CMJ and Griffs stats and those have also been amended. :o

I have rechecked all stats and it's all now good to go.

If we need a defensive midfielder I wonder if Danny could tempt Charlie Ten-Grotenhuis to return….

I seem to remember we played Romulus in a BSC match at KP a couple of seasons ago. They were a decent team and we only beat them on pens
Villa have been a great club, are still a great club and always will be a great club.

We appear to be signing a mix of experienced and younger lower level players. The younger players are not kids though as has been previous policy they have lower league experience and are looking to move up the ladder.
I'm quite happy with this and think it could be a recipe for some success. The only worry is if they look good at step 4 can we hang on to them.

Most interesting is the fact that we don't appear to be signing too many players based up in the Potteries
