Relegation Confirmed

Post by PitmanKeith »

With Stratford Town picking up a point today our relegation to Step 4 has been mathematically confirmed.
We should know around mid May which league we will be competing in. It will most likely be the Northern Premier Div 1 West or the Northern Premier Div 1 Midlands.

A sad but inevitable day.

Thanks for your stats above, Keith. I remember reading at the time that our relegation from the Conference was the first in our history? Like in 04/05 was it the case of a new level being added in 79/80?

Yes mate National League was formed in 1979/80 thus dropping the WML to Step 4 status.

We might be relegated but under a new owner I’m sure we can get promoted next season or at least be challenging! Pleased graham and ade stabilised us but under new stewardship and owning the ground I’m sure the good times will come back! 👍🏻

When the pyramid was reorganised in the early 80s I remember a bit of a debate rumbling on about whether the club should have applied to join the newly formed Southern League Midland Division. It chose not to, citing extra travel costs (to the likes of Forest green) and an unwillingness on the part of players to travel further for away fixtures. The likes of Moor Green , Sutton Coldfield and Oldbury etc joined the new setup, but it is probably true to say that the club couldn't afford to compete with some clubs in terms of paying wages.

The only good thing to come out of this season is a new owner.
To the comment above saying the previous owners stabilised us - in what way have they stabilised us? They almost killed the club, made us a laughing stock and relegated us to our lowest level in over 30 years

To the point above there were 15 clubs that withdrew or folded with covid being the mitigating factor please aww below

In all fairness this season has been a horror show but both Graham and Ade stabilised us throughout the pandemic. This season has been a difficult pill to swallow although the budget should have brought us a top 10 finish but due to a lack of player commitment and a managerial merry go round we are where we are and rightly so.

The club has a new owner who will return the good old days to KP.

We only have the owners' word that the budget was that of a top 10 side (we were told top 6 at one point). The quality of the squad never really convinced me that this was the case, but we'll never know for sure.

There is nothing to say pricey wouldn’t have seen us through the pandemic.

On the budget it doesn’t matter if we had a premier league budget if you don’t know how to spend it wisely it goes down the drain.

The managerial appointments went from bad to worse. And that lays solely at the feet of the owners. As does the lack of strategy for the club. Which has ultimately left us in the position we are in now.

I think we should agree to disagree on this. My first match was in 1989 and I’ve been an avid fan since.

I think what point I’m trying to convey is that Graham and Ade came in just before the pandemic and could have easily left us without a club well before their decision to sell. We’ve got relegated and we go again. I’m sure the new owner has a plan to get us to where we need to be. A stable squad of 20 id much prefer us to be challenging at step 4 than lower table at step 3.

Looking forward to next season already.
