Have Your Say: 2012/13 Website Improvements

Post by Dobba »

It's now been just over 6 months since this site and forum launched, which was then followed by the overhaul of the official website in February. On a personal note, its been great to see fans visiting both websites and the feedback I've received has been (for the most part) positive.

With the end of both the current league season and my time at University fast approaching, I'll be looking to take both websites to the next stage of their development in the coming months and the direction of that development is where you come in.

If there is anything you've seen around the internet that you feel is missing from either website, this is your chance to have your say. (Links to existing examples would be ideal if you know of any)

An online shop on the official site along with the ability to join the Supporters Association and/or Pitmen Prize Draw online have already been raised as ideas and are top of the to-do list but I'm willing to take any suggestions in terms of content or presentation that needs adding or changing.

I hope you continue to enjoy this and the official Hednesford Town FC website in both it's current and future guises.

Ben.

Thanks Ben, I'll think on and let you know if I come up with anything

I'll also be on the lookout for superfluous apostrophes

In the meantime, yet again, thanks for the tremendous work you've done and are doing

You have done a cracking job with both websites - both vastly exceed the expectations we had when we decided we needed new sites in December 2010.

The main thing I would like to see is an extention of the archives. Jon has a lot of the historic videos on Youtube, and Scott and I have gathered the corresponding match reports. Over the summer I will be working to consolidate all that for the website to have a section that really promotes our proud history and enables newer fans to really see what we are all about.

Dave Shaw has a LOT of material for the archive, and I would also like to see that go on to the website (or have some sort of format to enable the upload of this info).

In terms of other builds, i cant think of any off the top of my head. One thing to do may be to have a think about things you want to see on there, but dont have the chance to deliver (i.e. a video tour of Keys Park). If you have anything like that let us know, and then we can Work how to achieve it.

Actually.... thinking about it.. there was one idea for a one pager on the website giving new/visiting fans an overview of our club. I.e. who we are, what we have achived, match day prices, directions around the ground (maybe a photo tour). I know these are already there, but a one pager may be a nice touch for visitors to get all the information they need quickly.

Just one thing I've just been trying to find and unable to do so Ben, when looking at the results/fixtures page

http://www.hednesfordtownfc.com/fixtures

.... I can see the results but not scorers and then when clicking on the individual match report I have to read through it to find out who scored and when

Maybe on those reports (for future reference, I certainly wouldn't expect it to be done retrospectively) we could list result, attendance, team line-up, subs, scorers and yellow/red cards at the top before the match report itself.

Would probably just need a bit of re-jigging of Chris' match report?

Ben, I would like to see a links page to other local things of interest. We have started to build some good links with the Community again and we need to make sure we keep on top of this.

Hednesford Traders' Association have given us a mention on their website and it should only be right that we do the same: http://www.ourhtc.btck.co.uk/Links We have a number of things of interest in the local area that don't clash with us and should be linked together.

Also we could with one of these kind of pages like Worcester City use on their official website: http://www.worcestercityfc.co.uk/FirstV ... fault.aspx it helps welcome new supporters to the ground and makes it easier for them to attend by knowing where everything is.

That's very good - a lot better than their ground, in fact

We do already have this though Scott

Although we have a very good one in place the Worcester one is set up for new supporters to the club and I feel we can learn something from them. The Fan Based Experience man actually mentioned that this was a first and something other clubs should look to follow when engaging with supporters.

True. And we'll work on that as well as the website

Thanks for the suggestions so far guys, I've added a "First Time Visitors" page to the site and replaced the Twitter link on the homepage (below the slider) with a link to it. Any feedback on the page and any content that needs to be changed/added would be great.

Excellent Ben, you certainly don't hang around! Just need a links page now so that we can continue our good links in the local area.

Great stuff Ben, I've emailed you with a couple of suggestions to enhance that slightly

I was thinking of creating a new page on the site and replacing the community navigation link with it. Currently that goes directly to the separate community programme website, but I think we can still include a link to that website while having more detailed information on the club's role and relationships with organisations in the area that you mentioned.

Also: Can anyone confirm bus route numbers from Hednesford and Cannock and/or give an estimate of taxi prices from Cannock directly to the ground?

One of the local taxi firms may wish to 'sponsor' that Ben, with their advert prominently displayed adjacent to the price quotation?

I've updated the First Visit page with travel information via bus and train and added a search box to get Google Maps driving directions based on an entered postcode.

If anyone could do the honours and get a taxi company on board with an estimate I can get that on as soon as possible.

I was just thinking the same thing - it would be good to have a generic community page, and then various links/pictures of our involvements included in this page. Id like to see HTFCSA's invovement highlighted too. Scott- it may be worth sending Ben through a summary when you have a moment.

Secondly, it may be worth thinking how we archive the "fixtures and results" section - I'd hate to see that lost next season. Could we include the youtube playlist of our season on the page underneath the league table, and a link to Keith's stats too?

The first time visitor page is great - we should include that summary on the fixture distribution pages going forward.

I will be busy up to the end of May Ben, but after then I should be good to start sending you through the archive new stories we spoke about a while ago.

Thanks for your continued good work!

I'll probably just make a copy of the fixture and result page then link to it from the History section. That way all the match reports will still be accessible. I do like the idea of adding a link to the YouTube playlist though so I might tweak the layout of the page a bit.

I've also got to tweak the banner for the site now somebody else has claimed our trophy!
