This season's congratulations
They weren't the first club to win their league this season but I'm not allowed to mention the other one.
Interesting caller to Savage on Five Live last evening (I caught the last 3 minutes of 6.06), saying there were 4600+ at the first MTFC game he saw (League One, I think) and 4600+ again on Saturday. Also related how, when they were in the mire, he laughed at an old-timer fan who suggested they'd be better off folding and starting again several leagues lower, and redeveloping the ground with a bar and restaurant, gym, etc etc. Turned out he was strangely prescient...

Re: This season's congratulations
West Didsbury & Chorlton duly wrapped up the Step 6 NW Counties Div 1 South title last night with a win at Barnton in front of around 400 travelling fans.
Big celebrations afterwards especially featuring the keeper who organised all the kids to take penalties against him until they turned the floodlights off.
Amazing achievement to hold off money bags Isle of Man. Expecting a four figure crowd on Saturday.

Only 1680 for that Macc v Congleton game at Gresty Road, of which 1300 were Macc fans.

I've been to Congleton's ground (admittedly some years ago) so I can see why the game was switched

We are living in a time of rapid climate change. IoM either fly to games or teams and supporters fly in every week. They're champion carbon emitters. I really don't think this should be happening.

They do, but I've no idea how long this goes on for.
There have been other aspects of their membership that feel wrong to me.
They can't host midweek fixtures due to travel.
Many teams have had to fly at 6.30am from Manchester, hang around all day and then play at 6.30pm as the, astro, pitch is used by others at 3pm. Wythenshawe were delayed and spent half a day in the airport before the play off semi.
Due to their COVID regulations, IoM played away games until Christmas and then have had a run of consecutive home games since then. Some teams have fielded considerably weakened teams due to the entry and vaccination requirements, although I'm not inclined to sympathise with people who haven't been vaccinated. 2nd placed, at the time, New Mills, barely fielded a team when they went there and lost.
But it's the amount of flying their being in the pyramid that bothers me. Presumably it will get worse as they have to bring in people from off the island if they progress further. And I expect them to, with crowds of over 2000. Them and Bury will be hard to get past next year.
