Lee flagged this up on another thread last Friday but I didn't notice it.... https://www.southern-football-league.co ... -promotion

Bob Mills just did a super piece on this on TalkSPORT, prompting much ribaldry from muppets who don't care about the non-league game (or "the amateur game" as Colin Murray called it :x  (muppet) )

Evesham are appealing - lots of reaction here

Not the rules mate, they have to reprieve the best placed higher level relegated side i.e. Stamford, that then means they have to do all that buggering about.
Know where you're coming from though.
Indeed. The rules need changing. Far too many clubs who should have been relegated have been reprieved because of the failures of others to meet assorted criteria, or in this case spending all season busting their guts to get promoted then deciding they don't want to. Crazy...

I accept that, in this case, Stamford have been reprieved when they should have been relegated. However, and I think back to Altrincham in the Conference in the 1990s as an example, I think they were reprieved two or three times because of the financial misadventures of others. I don't think Alty were lucky at all, if all the clubs run their affairs prudently like Altrincham do who's to say they would have finished in a relegation position in the first place. That's why I find reprieves generally fair, unlike this particular case.

Common sense prevails. If Cinderford didn't want promotion they should be playing at step 5. Also I'm sure that the likes of Taunton, who pushed them hard all season, are furious at their behaviour.

Agreed. I'm getting much agreement on social media to the (obvious?!) suggestion that the rules need changing so that if a club in a promotion place opts out or doesn't meet the criteria, the next club down should take it. No reprieves for relegated clubs.

They do this in a country near England....

30 grand HMRC debt! Sound like they threw money at their promotion push and lived beyond their means. Hard to feel sympathy for them!

They're presumably planning ahead for when they play Flyde in the Championship in 2023

...and obviously Flyde have never attempted any underhand shenanigans in an attempt to capture a player. I seem to remember Neil Harvey. being the subject of interest from them. The tripling of wages! I wonder what on earth their wage bill is like!

Clinton Morrison didn't last long then....

http://www.evostikleaguesouthern.co.uk/ ... exit-32443

I think I saw him on SSN the other day/night - I imagine the "travelling difficulties" might involve the fact that he gest paid more for watching football for them than for playing it for Redditch...?
