It's a sad indictment of how football clubs are run nowadays that a few clubs in the Conference simply go under (shortly after leaving the Football League - are Plymouth the next ones?) and then re-appear a couple of rungs down the pyramid the following year.
This creates a skewed effect (as we have seen with Halifax, Salisbury and Nunny) with the clubs then getting successive promotions so that they are back where they were when the went under. We are now seeing this with Chester.

I agree it is unfair on more traditionally run clubs such as the vast majority we compete with at this level, but I can't see a solution to it in all honesty.

All we can do is hope that at some point in the future the game puts its financial house in order so that the situations we have seen over the past couple of years which have seen many non-league clubs competiting with 'bigger failed clubs with one are tied behind their backs.

I'm not holding my breath. No doubt Rushden and Diamonds will appear next season thus dominating the league in which they compete

Simple solution Perton, phoenix clubs start 7 levels below where their deceased forebear went under, rather than the two or three (is it?) which seems to have applied with the clubs you quote, plus Telford.

It would work wonders for crowd figures in the Step 5/6/7 leagues as, to be fair, did the starting from scratch of FCUM and AFC Wimbledon.

My facts may well be wrong but I'm tired!!

And it's off.

Does this mean it's the official start of the bad weather for this season ;)

Just bear in mind that, as of the equivalent of last Saturday last year we were under snow and ice from now through Christmas. It ain't too bad just yet, though Ayr Races are off waterlogged today, the A8 at Greenock is flooded and dolphins have just been found swimming up the Manchester Ship Canal (two of those three statements are true.... )

If nothing else it does at least mean that Chester join us and Vics in facing a fixture pile-up...

I think I can see why Kendal's pitch has been ruled unfit

Not even I can argue with that ref's decision...

Looks like the wet weather which is afflicting the North-West today won't spread much further south by tomorrow

http://weather.uk.msn.com/local.aspx?we ... 2c+England

but the HTFC Text Alert System (for urgent news of postponements etc) is ready to swing into action when it's needed - if anyone who isn't part of the chain wants to join it please let me know - and if those who are have forgotten who they have to pass the texts onto, again please ask me, I must have the details somewhere!!

As we face our daunting January, worth noting that Chester's isn't easy either

http://evostikleague.pitchero.com/fixtu ... m_id=38429

(You'd back them to beat Mickleover, but maybe if Quinny is still there he could do us a favour)

A draw at Ebbsfleet would be good....

;)
