I don't usually look at the Off Topic thread, only just saw this. I was there.

940 there on Saturday to see an 18 (eighteen) - 0 win. The opposition, St Martin's, have lost virtually every game and then their whole squad left on the Wednesday. West could have taken it easy but goal difference could have been important in deciding the title. Actually, it probably won't be but they didn't know that at the time. St Martin's got a massive ovation at the end.

940 is good, but not as many as Chasetown though!!

I've followed St Martins' season with some interest, I have one pal who does their PA and another who's watched them about 6 times this season. How on earth does a manager motivate his team at half-time when they're 0-9 down? That said, it's a shame although hardly surprising that their squad has disappeared... They aren't the worst team in British football though, another has been relegated with a record to date of 0-0-24 6-108 = -102

By comparison to both of them Fort William are on fire!

In the game at West last week, it was 12-0 at half time. But then St Martin's didn't concede for 25 mins so the half time talk must have been incredible.

St Martin's go to Isle of Man this week, the league's leading scorers, and for whom goal difference is important . Could be messy again.

I meant to ask, how did St Martins get into this mess? Not this week, but the whole season?

No idea, sorry... speculating, it may be as a result of an entire previous squad leaving with a manager (it happens, as we know); or having to pay to rent a nearby ground with 4G plastic pitch as their own was no longer available...

https://www.stmfc.co.uk/news/statement- ... 00310.html

And Covid won't have helped, although I doubt if gate money was ever a lot...

Seems from this that promotion into the NW Counties League may have been a poisoned chalice...

St Martins will probably be happy!

In the local derby West won 3-1 at Maine Road in front of 962. Maine Road had 96 for their last home game. One more win and West can go into the Congratulations thread. Barton away on Wednesday....

St Martins' manager just being interviewed on TalkSPORT.

He's their 5th manager this season and 90 players used...

As I suspected Covid and having to pay for another club's ground lie behind their difficulties; though he's not fully cognisant on all the reasons, understandable, he can't be held accountable for others' shortcomings...

... and he said they're the only club in the league which doesn't pay its players. Let's be fair, if they were paid on performance that would apply anyway...

100% agree....just a shame they badge it as a grant and then say its 50%-70% dependant upon the project and in the small print they say its part or all formed as a loan.....So they make it look great and then actually it isn't.

Ive got a list of key items i do want to sort out.....not sure which order atm.

Lighting, Scoreboard, Pitch, are all high on my list....but under review. I felt we needed some stability throughout to settle the club, before our next push so to speak. Make sure everything runs well everywhere.

We are improving all the time, but it does take time.

Also id like to add.....im mentioned about online abuse before in meetings mainly. Sadly i again have received many personal ones (not from you i may add, hence why im putting it in here, as i hope sense does occur here). I do not pick the team, formation, or anything else. Its not for me to interfere unless i really feel the need to. But i look at a greater picture to know if something is good for the club. Ive then been called out for defending myself, when its taken out of context. I will not and can not defend against saturdays game for example. We all know the game wasn't up to standards we need, and everyone will work hard to fix the issue (I even hear rumour for the selection for tomorrow......and its likely to be greeted with happiness and/or surprise by many). But I will not be bullied or abused. If anyone sees such, please feel free to pipe up and state thats wrong. Its not what we are trying to build. If people (and everyone will differ on opinions and again are welcome to have them too) disagree with the manager, tactics, players etc.....everyone is welcome to say and put why also. But direct shout outs and abuse towards myself will not be tolerated, especially when the person in question deletes original rants at me to then look like a victim. I will be speaking to the person in question, as you all know im no shrinking violet myself. But i wished to add this here also. As I know opinions matter and i do not want people thinking they cannot have a negative opinion. If we loss badly especially its to be expected. But its the manner its delivered thats important. I just hoped that the above will help people understand myself, and what i would like to see from everyone. We will only move forward quickly if we grow the fan base, and that really does take time and results on the pitch really do make a huge difference to that factor. But I focus on the off field elements, whilst reviewing the onfield work also.

Are we at where we want right now.....no. But will we get there? together we will of that im sure.

Id also like to thank you all. We have all had differing opinions during this season. But I do feel that the majority now have found a way to communicate between us all better and clearer. We will build the club together as long as we communicate. Everyone's support is vital, now more than ever. Ive lost my right hand with Ade leaving, and whilst were still very good close friends, its now more than ever I need everyone to galvanise together. Such as the above comment.....its helpful and appreciated. As anything we can look at to improve the club we should and must do.

I personally have so much on, with Russian family and Ukrainian Friends too. The worlds a strange place at present, and having just through COVID times (although its not gone yet), we should all reflect and appreciate each other more than ever. Life is a precious thing we have. Enjoy it all. Lets keep the faith..... Lets Stick Together.

Thank you all for the support for now, past and the future.

Graham :)

Sorry to hear you are getting abuse Graham - it's not on. People have to be a bit more philosophical about results. We just got bullied by a much bigger, more physical opponent on Saturday and it is fair to say that we can't 'mix it' with teams like that.
A fact of life. The manager chooses the style of play and we lack the quality to make up for our deficiencies when it comes to an arm wrestle.
No point in getting upset about it.

Good luck with the shopping list - sounds expensive!

Quite remarkable that, especially bearing in mind that within 6-9 years they were taking thousands to support them at Wembley...

West Didsbury & Chorlton's game at Cheadle Town was halted briefly yesterday when some kids shone a laser pen at players. The Cheadle manager dealt with it admirably, walking over to the people concerned and giving them a right, er, telling off. They didn't do it again.
