Images of the captain going down with a sinking ship spring to mind. If a fair number of clubs aren't going to fulfil fixtures then what is the point of the remaing clubs fulfilling games. Those clubs that are furloughing players and will play games with non-contracted players and 'amateurs' are simply fuelling the farce.

I'd love to, but they haven't happened this winter.
