Looking up a postcode on Google Maps today, I stumbled across a street that has been named after the late, great Paul Ware as the old Victoria Ground site is being redeveloped:

A nice touch from Stoke-On-Trent Council that. What a player he was.

And I'm glad (in a way) that some redevelopment is finally taking place, it's been a very sad sight/site since SCFC left the Victoria Ground...

Brilliant, a player that will forever be remembered by all fans attending at the time.

Thanks Del, you're a star - don't know why but every time I try and post a tweet at the moment it comes up as "unavailable"!

And by the way, see replies to that one, some crackers!

Nice gesture.

The HTFCSA had managed to secure something similar, in regards to roads being named after former players, with the Council and developers for the new roads around Keys Park but I'm not sure where that currently is.

One of the roads has already been labelled as O’Connor Avenue according to Google Maps with a couple still to be named. Foster Way perhaps? Or Brindley Road? What about Kyle Perry Close? :)

It would have to be a wide road to be called Kyle Perry Close :-)

It's great they have done that - does Joe know that is the case? Haven't seen anything in the news or anything on it!

I've done a bit more digging today and the other roads do indeed already have names; Pitmen Way for the main approach and the other two I'm assuming are named after 1910s striker 'Tosh' Griffiths and the 1951 title-winning skipper Dicky Dew?

Thanks for digging this out Chris. You are correct in your assumption - back in 2018 there were a number of names put forward by HTFCSA members with these three coming out on top in the members vote. It covers quite a nice cross cross section of our history. I hope that something can be sorted with Hednesford Town Council and Taylor Wimpey for a ceremony once it is safe to do so.

Mark Gayle is one of this week’s featured players in the SPL’s ‘They played in the Southern Football League’ series

“One of the best goalkeepers in non-league football during the early 2000s” - well, he got plenty of practice in with some of the defenders in front of him at that time!
