Stroud ,population 115,000 ,on FGR doorstep and Gloucester and Cheltenham not far away. Great achievement though to beat Tranmere and realise their dream.

Not really that great an achievement as it's cost their owner over £5million to do it.

I'm assuming that somebody is putting money into the club as I can't see why these guys would drop down to that level as clubs a bit higher up the pyramid would be looking at them too.

More up-to-date, a reliable source tells me that there is a strong possibility of Ilkeston being wound up in the High Court today, which would have a knock-on effect of who plays where in the NPL next-level-down empire...

Watch this space...

Here's the story before what follows below...

http://nonleague.pitchero.com/news/evos ... -ilkeston/

From the same reliable source:

Ilkeston have been wound up in the High Court in Liverpool this morning...

They attempted a last minute takeover but the judge was not having it.

It's like deja vu all over again....

It would appear, from two players joining NLN clubs from a mid-table WPL side, that we can now realistically assess what the standard of the WPL is... ;)

I read that "Ilkeston United Community FC" has already been formed as the next phoenix to rise from the ashes... and that the ground is owned by the local council....
