FA Cup 2011-12

Post by Perton Pitman »

A very mixed day for teams in our league. Cashtown and Strangers both got turned over by lower league sides. I went to Bridgnorth v Long Buckby and it was a poor game played on a rock hard pitch. The visitors won 2-0, but it was a game of little incident. Stratford (who turned the Strangers over) play in the same league as Bridgnorth so the Strangers must have been pretty dire.

The wheels appear to have come off at Cashtown, but on the positive side they foundan extra 100 fans (looks like their supporters only come out for cup games)

Good win for RUshall at Buxton

Looking forward to the draw on Monday - hopefully we get a home tie. Only two games to the first round proper!

While I'm trying (and failing) to find today's results on the FA Site ( )* I have at least found out how much today's muppet ref got paid for his efforts!!

http://www.thefa.com/TheFACup/FACompeti ... 011-12.pdf

*Ah well, we can find some of them here

http://evostikleague.pitchero.com/results.php

http://www.southern-football-league.co. ... on=results

Next challenge is to find out what prize money we've already earned....

And God bless Steve Price who spent the entire second half with his back to the game, presumably not daring to think how much we'd be missing out on if we didn't go through!!!

Our progress means that our scheduled game away to FCUM on 15th October will now have to be rearranged; we'll endeavour to get news of the draw onto our forum and the HTFCSA site asap on Monday

I may be wrong but I think the next round is still regionalised (North/Midlands/South) so I think our opponents will come from the teams between Histon v Corby and Kings Lynn v Quorn.

Interesting

I've found the link now, and they're still as previously stated

http://www.thefa.com/TheFACup/FACompeti ... 2q-results

Did Chelsea really beat the Villa in the 2000 Final, or was that just another FA mishtake??

Here are the prize money stats

http://www.facupfootball.co.uk/fa-cup-schedule.html

Intrigued by that quote that "there is very little prize money to be won...."

Depends on your viewpoint doesn't it. £1.8m might seem "very little" if you're Manchester City, but we'd settle for it....

Personally, I would like another away game, for a couple of reasons really.

1. We seem to play better away from home, where the following is a lot more supportive, and the expectation and pressure are not soo great.

2. I would love to visit another new ground/town/city.

I am hoping for an easy(ish), on paper, game. For example, Leek, Stratford, Grantham, Evesham, Daventry, etc.....

Counting down the minuted till Monday's draw now :-D

http://www.thefa.com/TheFACup/FACompeti ... Q-round-up

"There was no upset at Halifax as they lost 3-0 away to Lancaster City"

Well, there was never going to be then, was there???!!!

Although actually, there WAS a cup upset as Halifax WON away at Lancaster City. 3-0 as it happens...

You just know our football is in safe hands with the FA....

Corby away to Kidder then - doh!

(It doesn't necessarily follow that that would have been us, but even so - aaaaaaaargh!!!)

http://www.thefa.com/TheFACup/FACompeti ... up-4q-draw

A friend of ours who has a foot in both camps will be a tad miffed that Stourbridge host Pics - but at least it ensures one of them will be in the First Round Proper....

We are due to play at Nantwich on 12 November so this must be in doubt now as they will fancy their chances of turing over Nunny and therefore making the 1st round.

£4 for a (admittedly gi-normous) cottage pie when I was there last season....

But yes, although I didn't sample them, they looked very tempting.

Read all about it in this book which I would heartily recommend to any football follower

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Matchday-What-M ... 1905156170

... and you'll see you can get a copy for £0.01 plus postage. Can't remember who I lent mine to, but I don't think it's coming back!

If Bradford PA or Rushall are still in the cup we could play their scheduled opponents- Northwich or Buxton.

It’s taken a while for me to notice, but the FA have scheduled the First Round Proper of “The World’s Greatest Cup Competition” on the same day as “a Prestigious Friendly against the World Champions” on Saturday… so, for example, Walsall fans travelling to Exeter and Stourbridge fans to Plymouth can’t watch both - and I gather Capello is also missing his son’s wedding!

Nice one FA!

 (muppet)

(I might risk one ear to listen to as much of the England game as I can stand on the way back from Buxton...)

LOL, I think "disappointment" is the understatement of the year?!

And with Stourbridge (well done them today!) having stuffed Kendal 6-0 away midweek, and Totton dismantling BPA today, the argument that it's tougher up north is suddenly creaking a bit!!

I was VERY NEARLY kicking myself for not having a few bob on Stourbridge after I said how generous 7/1 (or 8/1 with some bookies) was!!

Hey ho, more money in the coffers from the replay - if Plymouth can afford a coach to come up for it?!
