I was reading an article on new Hartlepool manager Darren Sarll who has never managed a club north of Stevenage before and he said he didn’t want to be known as a Londoner bringing 10 Londoners with him and that he felt that signing local players was important for the club and the fans. We may be taking a different approach…

I'm not bothered where they come from as long as we win every game this season.

Expect Manny goals from the latest signing.

I'll get me coat.

This is the kind of signing that rings alarm bells for me.
19 clubs in 10 years
31 goals in his last 140 games is hardly prolific

It averages out at 1 goal in every 4.5 games I think although maths isn’t my strongest point. Over a 42 game season he would score 9 goals which as a second striker is good enough if Stevenson and Trickett-Smith are hitting 40 or more between them.
He scored over 30 in one season for Hayes so presumably you’ve gone back and stopped just before Hayes to make your point look better than it really is.

One good season doesn’t make him a great player. That season was clearly a one off

I reckon on another three (possibly four) to come in.

I think I’m right in saying that Elliott Johnson is a left back but can play as a left sided centre back?
If that’s the case we only have two centre backs and they are Kory Roberts and Josh Endall, who performed abysmally on Saturday. We could do with two more centre backs in my opinion.

I have it on good authority that Elliott Johnson has been signed to be our left sided centre back.
I think we need another centre back because Endall will just not come up to the required standard within this squad.

I'm not sure how our peers are progressing with building their squads, but our first competitive game is in just over 3 weeks. It feels like we are hoping that the squad will gel quickly as I doubt more than a few will have played together previously.
Will be interesting to see how things go and the friendlies will give us a good indication. For what it's worth I'd like to see more Midlands based players in the squad.

Eleven out of the current squad of seventeen are Midlands based.

We retained 4 from last season so 7 of the 13 we have signed are Midlands based. That isn't great for a step 4 side. That's the kind of number you'd expect at step 1 or 2.

I have to ask PP why you think it is so important to have local players providing the vast majority of the squad.
The last time we got promotion in 2013 under Rob Smith we had a lot of players from the Liverpool, Manchester and Nortb Wales area and that worked well, the guys car shared to get down here and I would imagine the same will happen this season with the lads from the South East.
The manager also has worked with these lads before and knows their strengths.

Personally if we have a good season it doesn't matter to me if we fly them all in from China.

Try having that name put on your shirt🤣

Still need a goalkeeper and centre half for me and we're nearly complete.

He played in the 7 shirt on Saturday at Coleshill and didn’t particularly stand out.

Do we know if all of those in the squad have gone to Spain?
