Re: Witton Albion (A) .. Northern Premier League - West
If you look back at the records after the Newcastle game I think we have conceded 3 or more per game with the exception of the derby versus Cashtown.
It is relegation form and unless we can attract better players we will get relegated. However, the last person we should be blaming is Danny Glover as his hands are tied. He has put a squad together at short notice and recognises the need to improve it, but we are in a similar situation to one we were in roughly 40 years ago where we were constantly battling relegation from the SLM , but couldn't attract players because they could earn better money at smaller clubs who, in some cases, were playing at a level further down the pyramid.
We need to get behind Danny and so do those idiots on facebook who are calling for him to go. If we lose him then nobody else will want the job.
All we can hope is that the club can be handed onto owners who are able to finance the playing side properly (this is not a dig at Ade by the way)

Re: Witton Albion (A) .. Northern Premier League - West
This was my analysis on Facebook
First 15 and last 15 we were on top. We let our heads drop too easily after the first goal though which led to us losing our organisation allowing them to attack freely before h/t and till about the 70 minute mark! The red card should have been a yellow tops and I think we showed glimpses of good football tonight. I would like to see certain players shooting a bit more in the next game and giving it a go instead of taking an extra touch and losing the ball!
Main talking points for me
Rivel had 3 great chances in the first half but looked scared to shoot when in good positions
Danny made us look like a better team with his ability to win the balls in the air and his movement
Jez abbey looks a quality signing with his skill on the ball and his passing range
We really need to work on our shape as at times they walked through us as players were not recovering
The keeper made some great saves when called upon but was massively out of position at other times
If we can work on consistency throughout the game we will be fine but Danny has a good amount of work to do
My first time to witton and it seems a nice little club. I was especially impressed with the museum they have built into their club shop which is a nice touch!

Danny is completely to blame any decent experienced manager would get plenty from this group of players. He chooses the players, he plays them out of position, he has no idea what he is doing and the quicker the club see it the better.Perton Pitman wrote: ↑Wed Sep 13 2023 8:04 am If you look back at the records after the Newcastle game I think we have conceded 3 or more per game with the exception of the derby versus Cashtown.

VAR has looked into this and although the are shown where you have stated, they are normally posted on the PMC-PMC thread so in this case there will be no issued!

Re: Witton Albion (A) .. Northern Premier League - West
I went and this is my take on the game.
The first 10/15 mins we looked good going forward but didn’t create anything clear cut. I don’t know if Mardenborough is short on confidence or is used to having more time at step 5, but he needs to shoot more/sooner.
After a fairly decent start, Witton grew into the game and we seemed a yard or two off the pace. Is this is down to lack of fitness, the work rate not being good enough, us having quite a few players from the level below who naturally operate at a slower pace, or an amalgamation of all of these things? Regardless we went 1 down and for 60 mins or so of the game there was only one team in it and it looked like Witton would win the game by 3 or 4 clear goals.
In the last 10/15 we put the pressure back on the home side and got ourselves level. A few minutes prior to our equaliser, Desean Martin was dismissed for lightly tapping the keepers genitals. The keeper rolled around on the floor like he’d been shot and the ref showed Martin a red, even though I’m sure he didn’t actually see the incident and made the decision on the keepers reaction alone.
Unfortunately Witton were then awarded a very soft penalty and once again we’ve come away with no points.
We changed to 442 at half time and I thought Abbey looked much better off the right hand side. This also helped with us getting over run in midfield in the first half. Maybe we need to start with this on Saturday. We can’t be coming away from Saturday saying we were unlucky, the ref cost us, individual errors have resulted in us losing the game etc. We must win, it’s as simple as that.

The squad he has is determined by the budget. Hardly any were deemed good enough to play at this level last season. At the back end of last season Danny had put together a reasonable side, even though it seemed the budget had been cut from what it was earlier in the season. I’m not saying Danny hasn’t made mistakes this season, but like Perton said, the team/squad is determined by the budget. Unfortunately it seems the budget we currently have is even less than what we finished with last season and that is shown in the quality of our current squad. This aligns with what Ade said when he saved the club, as he was very clear that the money available wouldn’t be near what it has been previously due to the circumstances.Perton Pitman wrote: ↑Wed Sep 13 2023 9:18 pmThe squad he has is determined by the budget. It will be no different to the majority of clubs in the league and yes there will be some higher but not as many as everyone seems to make out.
He just cannot get the best out of them and that is down to his lack of experience and some of his decisions are terrible.
Perton is living in the past if he thinks the club are splashing about the budget from the last few years those days are gone but a decent manager would get more from the players and that should be the main focus.

Don't think I've said anywhere that we are or should be throwing money about. We aren't able to, hence we have the squad we have. If they were good enough for this level they would have been playing at this level last season, but many weren't .johnmotson wrote: ↑Wed Sep 13 2023 10:57 pmSorry but the budget will always be different as it's a league down and money was thrown about in the previous years and look what happened.akb junior wrote: ↑Wed Sep 13 2023 9:36 pmAt the back end of last season Danny had put together a reasonable side, even though it seemed the budget had been cut from what it was earlier in the season. All we can hope is that the club can be handed onto owners who are able to finance the playing side properly (this is not a dig at Ade by the way)
It's down to him to manage but he can't do it and it's clear to see that he doesn't get the best out of them. End of !
Williams Gresley (step 4)
Paddock Wednesfield (step 6)
Kelly - Shifnal (step 5)
Griffiths - SHifnal (step 5)
Martin RC Warwick (step 5)
Mardenborough -Darlaston (step 5)
Dixon - Lichfield (step 5)
Forbes - various (mainly step 5 and 6)
glover - Hednesford (step 3)
Thorley - Hednesford for a while (step 3)
Sang - Tividale (step 5)
etc. etc.
You make it look like Glover, Crane, Kelly, Griffiths, Thorley not to mention all the other players you missed out from the squad have never played at this level or higher, just to try and back up your point.
Plenty have played at this level and higher that is my point.

Re: Witton Albion (A) .. Northern Premier League - West
Crane, Griffiths, Thorley, Glover and Mendez-Jones have all had lengthy spells at Step 2 in their careers and should be contributing help to the more inexperienced lads, trouble is they aren't. The other added problem is apart from Dan Crane the others have all had lengthy injury problems over the last 5 years and are again suffering this season.
Not ideal at all.
All I keep hearing from FB is bad luck, deserved to win, poor officials, we will come good, new team, takes time to gell. How long do they need they've had 16 games inc pre-season and won just two games whilst conceding an average of over 2.5 goals per game.
Unless the powers that be take another look soon I fear for our future.

I think you will find that I said that most our squad was at step 5 last season. That is a fact and the reason for that is that they are past their best. You responded by saying that "plenty were playing at this level and some higher". I accept that some players have played at step 2 / 3 etc, but that wasn't the point I was making - this was some years ago as you well know.johnmotson wrote: ↑Thu Sep 14 2023 5:21 pmIt's like you have just took the lowest league any of these have ever played in and put it together and forgot to put others in there ....oh wait that is what you have done.Perton Pitman wrote: ↑Thu Sep 14 2023 10:58 amCrane - RC Warwick (step 5)johnmotson wrote: ↑Wed Sep 13 2023 10:48 pmPlenty were playing at this level and some higher.Perton Pitman wrote: ↑Wed Sep 13 2023 9:18 pmThe squad he has is determined by the budget.

This squad is not up to step 4 - if it were they would have been playing step 4 last season.
Hopefully that has clarified the matter.
Shall we ask Joe O'Connor to come out of retirement????
